Such clean simple housing design evokes fairy - tale home images from the Hansel & Gretel era.
The " Three Windows and a Door " house front archetype.
Rather like a child's drawing of a house.
Who says these simple houses are not magical !

Anyone and everyone can build something new, in cities all over the world. It's what you can keep from the past that will give a city a story, character and a feeling of an established community that separates each of our stomping grounds from those elsewhere. I believe its important that people who travel can recognise the differences in architecture and visual history of somewhere else, to give them the experiences of where they are and how its different, or one may as well stay at home. To knock down and start again with every new fashion melds us into a faceless sameness as other cities who do the same. We must progress with better designs for our future populations but keep the past insight, so as to also allow all people to measure the distance we have come and appreciate it.

Such handsomely modest buildings, and a part of Melbourne's unique history and character. I hope they stay.

As a member of the National Trust, I am mortified that Melbourne is hell bent on losing more and more of it’s historic buildings. These small buildings may seem plain to others but if walls could talk there would be many a tale to tell. Please leave something for my grandson and furture generations to learn about our past from in reality instead of just books and images.
