83-91 Union Street. McMahon’s Point. Sydney, New South Wales

This group of five 1880s terraces, part of the CA 15 – Union, Bank. Thomas Conservation Area in McMahon’s Point, steps gently down the hill with distinctive high slated gables, concave corrugated iron verandahs and sloping party walls. The wall of 91 ends the terrace at Chuter Street forming a picturesque silhouette with its distinctive chimney and pots.

The row shares matching cast iron filigree balustrade interrupted by a central cast iron column and corner brackets with elegant drops, with the party walls decorated by scrolls. The original cast iron palisade fence also remains intact. This is a very elegant row and one of several bordering the Sydney Church of England Grammar School campus.

The row remains substantially intact, though a recent application involves modification of the rear.1
