Barcelona Terrace: 27-37 Brunswick Street, Fitzroy. Melbourne, Victoria

Barcelona terrace is a row of seven terraced homes in Fitzroy built in 1881, one of few residential projects of notable Melbourne builders Cockram & Co ¹ .  The terrace forms part of a fine Victorian streetscape in Brunswick Street.  Barcelona Terrace has all the hallmarks of a boom style Melbourne terrace, built on bluestone foundations.  Barcelona Terrace features a large central round pediment on the mid terrace parapet which includes the naming of the terrace, and extends evenly with a long balustrade and cornice.

The decorative frieze on Barcelona terrace is notable.  The party walls project to form the balcony and topped by urns at each level (including the parapet) and decorative classical columns are topped by vermiculated ends.  The window and door surrounds are arched and feature keystones in an Italianate style.  The ground level features double arched windows.  Cast iron is abundant, from the brackets to the fringes, pendants and verandah balustrade to the cast iron fence which extends out to the street.
