Rockdale is an attractive freestanding double storey former middle class home in the Italianate terrace style. Like many of the grand homes along this stretch of Punt Road close to St Kilda Junction it is set back from the street. Despite its obvious grandeur, Rockdale is unfortunately not afforded any heritage protection under the City of Stonnington planning scheme.
The terrace is highly decorated in rendered brick, however it has been significantly modified, the “modernisation” dating to sometime before the 1950s resulting in the removal of its cast iron lacework, replacement of its support column with concrete and enclosing its upper storey verandah in aluminium framed glass.

This row of three terraces (Greta, Clio and Jersey) is tucked away in a side street in Sydney’s Potts Point. At three storeys this is a large impressive stand of terraces set amongst interwar and modern apartment buildings.

Sometimes adaptive reuse can be a bad thing and this complex in tree lined Park Street is a prime example.
While it was not uncommon for terraces to have their balconies built in to create more room, this early 1980s curtain wall job to create 24 apartments from 4 large terrace houses is more than a little brutal.

Located close to Burnley railway station is this pair of Victorian terrace houses. They are looking a little worse for wear and the presence of a blog of walk-up flats next door may be a hint that this was originally part of a much larger row. They are in pretty poor condition with many modifications making them quite difficult to date, possibly working class terraces of the late 1880s or early 1890s.

New Castle Terrace: 212-213 Beaconsfield Parade. Middle Park, Victoria
“New Castle” terrace is an intriguing pair of terrace houses overlooking Port Phillip Bay on Beaconsfield Parade. The most distinctive feature of these terraces is the castellated parapet including two towers with false windows in the shape of medieval turrets which adorns each and frames their cartouche.
